Module 1: Build Your Financial Foundation

Before you can build wealth, you must have a solid base. This module covers the non-negotiable first steps to financial freedom.

Why a Foundation is Critical

You wouldn't build a skyscraper on sand, so why build your financial future on debt and disorganization? A strong foundation ensures that one bad month—a car repair, a medical bill—doesn't wipe out your progress. It's the launching pad for all your future investments.

The 3 Pillars of Your Foundation

1. The TMT Budget: Spend Less Than You Earn

This is the single most important rule in finance. A budget is not a restriction; it's a plan for your money. It gives you permission to spend while ensuring you save. The goal is simple: **your income must be greater than your expenses.** The difference is your "Net Balance," which is the money you can use to build wealth.

2. Your Emergency Fund: The 3-6 Month Rule

An emergency fund is a cash reserve set aside *only* for unexpected life events. This is not investment money. It's your financial firewall.

  • Start with a goal of $1,000. Get this first.
  • Build to 3-6 months of *living expenses*. Calculate how much you need to survive for one month (rent, food, utilities, etc.) and multiply it.
  • Keep this in a separate, high-yield savings account where you can access it quickly.

3. Debt Management: Good Debt vs. Bad Debt

Not all debt is created equal. Your priority is to eliminate high-interest "bad debt."

  • Bad Debt: Credit cards, personal loans, payday loans (anything with > 7-8% interest). This debt *costs* you money every month. Attack it aggressively.
  • Good Debt: A sensible mortgage, a low-interest student loan, or a business loan. This debt is typically used to acquire an asset that (hopefully) appreciates in value.

You must have a plan to pay off all bad debt before you begin investing heavily.
